Manchester United are in a transfer battle with Arsenal for Kyle Walker-Peters
According to The Athletic (h/t Metro), Manchester United are currently engaged in a transfer battle with Arsenal to sign Southampton star Kyle Walker-Peters this summer. He has grown to become a key player for his side in recent times and has now attracted interest from some of the top Premier League clubs.
Man United have Walker-Peters on their radar as a potential option to reinforce the right-back spot if they decide to go down that route. The Gunners are in a similar boat, with Tottenham Hotspur having a £30million buy-back option for the defender, having sold him back in 2020.
That being said, it is difficult to see the Saints selling the England international as they are targeting another right-sided full-back to provide competition. That is because Tino Livramento is set to be on the sidelines for the rest of 2022, having picked up a long-term injury.
Man Utd to target Walker-Peters?
It is quite understandable why the 25-year-old has emerged to become a target for us, considering how the right-back spot is one of our weaknesses. With Erik ten Hag looking to facilitate a rebuild at Old Trafford, he would need to be provided with quality options to help with the process.
While Diogo Dalot has done quite well for us, he is more suited to be utilised as a second fiddle than a starter if there are plans to reach the very top. Aaron Wan-Bissaka is of the wrong profile as he is more suited to a defensive system, which did play in part in his poor run of form in the previous season.
That could explain why we are willing to listen to proposals for Wan-Bissaka this summer. Should he be sold, a spot will be vacated, which is where Walker-Peters could come in if ten Hag approves of a move. Then again, it remains to be seen if Southampton would sell him or not.

Fortunately for us, it is stated that while Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side is plotting to sign another right-back, the new addition could be brought in with a plan to replace Walker-Peters. That will certainly give us a glimpse of hope if an active attempt to sign him is made in the future.
We are handed another boost in the form of Brandon Williams as Hasenhuttl’s team is interested in signing him for the right-back position. If that is the case, then one could argue that perhaps an exchange deal could be on the cards. Then again, we have to wait and see how this situation develops in the coming days or weeks.
