Manchester United show transfer interest in AC Milan star Fikayo Tomori
According to the Italian news outlet Corriere della Sera via Transfer News Live on Twitter (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United have expressed their interest in facilitating a potential transfer for AC Milan star Fikayo Tomori this summer. He had only left Chelsea to move to Italy ahead of the previous campaign and has certainly made his mark during that short time.
Man United have turned their attention to Serie A with the hope of bolstering their backline in this transfer window. They are plotting to secure Tomori’s services ahead of the next season and bring him back to England to meet their needs in the backline.
However, it is claimed that the England international has no intentions to leave Milan at this moment. This update would certainly come as a damning blow for the Red Devils and their hopes of reinforcing the defence with a quality addition like Tomori.
Not surprising
It would have been quite shocking, to be honest, if the 24-year-old had entertained our approach and assessed his options as of now. After all, the centre-back seems to be doing more than well enough with the Milan-based club, so there is no reason for him to depart right now.
The Serie A superstar made 40 appearances for the Italian heavyweights last season and even helped them to 18 clean sheets across all competitions. He also scored once during that period and played a major part in their Scudetto winning run and ending their long-standing league title drought.
In fact, Tomori was a major factor in ensuring that the Serie A champions had the best defence in the Italian top-flight last season, tieing with Napoli in the process. In such a case, it is difficult to see him leave his side and move back to England and team up with Erik ten Hag.
Stefano Pioli’s side has become genuine title contenders and is even in the next campaign’s Champions League. Hence, it is not surprising to see Tomori wanting to remain in San Siro and ply his trade with them for longer.

As such, we must look beyond this setback and search for other targets to solve our defensive issues. We have been chasing after Lisandro Martinez for quite some time, but Ajax have been giving us some trouble in this pursuit. Hence it would be best if we prepare a shortlist to have a wide list of options ready in the worst-case scenario.
