Manchester United enquire with PSG about a potential transfer for Leandro Paredes
According to the French outlet L’Equipe (h/t The Express), Manchester United have held talks with PSG after enquiring about a potential transfer for Leandro Paredes this summer. The former is in the market for midfield additions and has turned their attention towards Paredes for that very reason.
Man United have plans to sign more than one midfielder in this summer transfer window. As such, they have expressed their interest in Paredes but have been dealt with a roadblock in their pursuit. That is because Paris Saint-Germain have slapped a £29.6million asking price for his services.
The price tag has “complicated talks” between the two clubs, which has caused the Red Devils to cool down their interest in the Argentinian. Juventus also pose competition to Man United in this race, so they will need to be quick with their decision if they want to revisit a move for Paredes in the future.
Puzzling move from Man Utd!
It is quite difficult to grasp why the Manchester side has taken this stance, as the 28-year-old’s valuation seems to be a steal indeed. In fact, his price would suit the English club’s current delicate situation as they would not have to spend big to reinforce their midfield with a quality midfield signing.
Those who have watched the South American would realise that he is quite similar to Nemanja Matic in playstyle while being more mobile as well. Paredes would have been a great option in the double pivot role if we would successfully prise away Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona.
In fact, the Ligue 1 champions’ implosion against Real Madrid in last season’s Champions League began once they lost their balance in midfield. That was after Mauricio Pochettino brought Paredes off the pitch as the French giants lost control of the match resulting in the famous comeback.
Furthermore, Argentina’s success in recent times under Lionel Scaloni is also down to Paredes patrolling the defence at the base of the midfield. Signing the PSG ace would have been a great move on our part, but that is not the case for some reason as of now.

Even then, perhaps we would not have signed Paredes anyway, even if there was an active interest in his signature. That is because he only admitted last month that he would stay in the French capital for at least one more season, and with a contract until 2024, it is difficult to see how that would change moving forward.
