Manchester United dealt blow as Thomas Strakosha set for Brentford transfer
According to the famous journalist, Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, former Lazio star and Manchester United target Thomas Strakosha is set to join Brentford in this summer transfer window.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United have been linked with a move for Strakosha, so this latest update would come as a damning blow for them.
Strakosha is currently available on a free transfer after being with the Italian side last season. It was even claimed that a move to Old Trafford is expected to take place, which makes this latest news all the more surprising for the Man United supporters.
Romano has even stated that the Bees and the Albanian international have reached an agreement on personal terms with medical tests taking place at this moment. In fact, playing in the Premier League is said to have been a dream for Strakosha, with a deal in line to be finalised shortly.
Not another setback!
Since Dean Henderson has left Old Trafford on a loan move to Nottingham Forest, we have a vacant backup goalkeeping spot that must be filled at all costs. While Tom Heaton is an option for Erik ten Hag, it would still be best if he could be upgraded with a better goalkeeper.
Strakosha, who was a regular for the Serie A club in the previous campaign, would have been perfect for us under the current circumstances. After all, signing the 27-year-old would not have dented our transfer budget at all while reinforcing the goalkeeping spot in the process.
But that is not the case going by this latest setback as Strakosha is off to Thomas Frank’s side as of now. It is quite frustrating to see this happen, although we cannot blame the shot-stopper for this decision if he feels that there is a greater chance of being a starter with them.

David de Gea would probably be the starter under ten Hag, which leaves little to no room for Strakosha to earn meaningful minutes regularly in Manchester. As such, we must now look for alternatives who can fill in for the time being as Henderson will return from Forest next summer.
Signing someone on a loan move for a free transfer would be a best-case scenario in our current situation, with de Gea and Henderson being our players even now. Losing out on Strakosha is a blow indeed, but there are other options out there that can meet our needs for the upcoming season.
