Transfer News: Manchester United nearing a move for ex-Lazio ace Thomas Strakosha
According to talkSPORT (h/t The Sun), Manchester United are nearing a move to sign ex-Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha in the summer transfer window. He will be the replacement for Dean Henderson, who has left on a season-long loan deal to join Nottingham Forest.
Strakosha is currently available on a free transfer as his contract with the Serie A giants expired at the end of last month. Man United do need someone who can play second fiddle in between the posts and have turned their gaze towards him at this moment.
The Red Devils have held talks with the Albanian’s agents to discuss a potential move this summer. Now, it appears that they are close to facilitating a transfer, with Chelsea, Leicester City and Forest also being linked with the shot-stopper.
Great move from Man Utd?
The 27-year-old was a regular for the Italian club last season, having made 31 appearances for them during that period. He also earned 11 clean sheets across all competitions while also conceding only 36 times in the process, which is pretty good for someone who would be a backup.
More importantly, signing the former Serie A keeper would not dent our transfer budget, which means that we can still pursue our other targets without any concerns. Furthermore, the Manchester side could also make a decent profit in the future if they decide to sell him after Henderson comes back in the future.
In any case, a transfer is yet to be finalised, so we cannot become lethargic when there are other competitors in the mix right now. Leicester, for example, could use a goalkeeper with Kasper Schmeichel nearing the twilight of his playing career.
The Blues, on the other hand, could use a backup goalkeeper as well, with Kepa Arrizabalaga’s future being currently in uncertain waters. The Reds have just signed Henderson temporarily, so it is puzzling to see them linked with Strakosha. Fulham were also in the mix, but fortunately for us, they are now targeting Arsenal’s Bernd Leno.

In any case, it would be best on the Mancunians’ part to reach an agreement with Strakosha at the earliest to prevent any risks in the future. With David de Gea looking set to be our number one for the upcoming campaign, the Albanian star would be a solid option indeed if we can complete a move for him in this transfer window.
