Erik ten Hag tells Manchester United to improve transfer bids for Ajax duo Antony and Lisandro Martinez
According to The Times (Subscription Required), Erik ten Hag wants Manchester United to improve their bids to complete transfer moves for Ajax duo Antony and Lisandro Martinez. The English club is in the process of a rebuild, but they have only brought in Tyrell Malacia so far to help with their case.
Ten Hag is looking to lay down the foundations of his new project at Old Trafford and has demanded the Red Devils quickly bring in his targets. The boss would probably have plans to quickly integrate Antony and Martinez into the team after the club finalise moves for the Eredivisie duo.
Man United are boosted by the fact that Antony and the Argentine centre-back want to leave the Dutch side this summer. However, Ajax is planning to replace them first and then agree to sell if they can earn around €125million in transfer fees for their star players.
Man Utd being held ransom?
It is understandable why ten Hag is putting pressure on the board, considering how we would play our first pre-season friendly this Tuesday against Liverpool. In an ideal scenario, the coach would have wanted to work with his targets much earlier, but that has not happened so far.
Malacia is an exception, but he alone would not be enough to solve the problems in the squad. While Christian Eriksen is expected to join us on a free transfer, he has not been added to our ranks till now. Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona has turned down the move to Manchester putting us in a precarious situation.
As such, ten Hag’s actions are certainly warranted, as he can only work his magic if the Manchester hierarchy provides him with the right support. In such a case, signing the Brazilian winger and Martinez from the Amsterdam-based club is a must if there are plans to rebuild the team.

With Arsenal also vying to get their hands on Martinez, we cannot afford to take it slow as there is the risk of losing out on the 24-year-old as a result. We have already made a €50million proposal for him at this moment, but Ajax have not accepted it so far.
Similarly, our €60million offer for Antony has not been entertained either, which could have frustrated ten Hag going by this update. In such a case, only time will tell whether the board would pay heed to the manager’s demands and increase their bids for the 22-year-old forward and Martinez moving forward.
