Transfer News: Manchester United agree deal for Tyrell Malacia
According to popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have reached an agreement with Feyenoord for the talented Dutch left-back Tyrell Malacia as he is all set to become the first signing of the Erik ten Hag era.
Lyon was said to be well advanced in signing the talented defender from the Eredivisie club but Manchester United made an 11th-hour entry to sign Malacia and eventually successfully managed to hijack the deal.
Man United have agreed a deal of €15m plus €2m add-ons for the Dutchman and an agreement has also been reached on personal terms. Malacia has been one of the most talented defenders in the Eredivisie in recent seasons.
A part of the Feyenoord youth setup since 2015, Malacia made the jump into the first team in 2017 and has since then been very impressive for the Dutch club. He has also won five caps for the Orange until now.
The 22-year-old made 50 appearances for Feyenoord this season scoring one goal and providing five assists across all competitions. Whilst he was widely expected to leave the Eredivisie this season, Man United did not seem like the likely option.
Regardless, now that it has happened and we are finally signing a player this transfer window after being linked with so many others, Tyrell Malacia gives the Manchester United fans a welcome boost at least for now.
Manchester United have a number of left-backs in their ranks and if Erik ten Hag has chosen to sign yet another left-back, it could mean that some of the existing players might not feature in his plans next season.
Luke Shaw has been the incumbent number one at Man United for quite some time now and if not for his injuries, the Englishman could be an even better player. The player who plays backup to him right now is Alex Telles.
The Brazilian has failed to recapture the kind of form he showed during his time at Porto and there have been links for the player to leave the club this summer. Brandon Williams is set to return from loan but it remains to be seen if he can win the trust of ten Hag in the same way he did under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
We also have the talented Alvaro Fernandes in the academy who is said to be very talented but he could be a couple of loan moves away from finding a place in the first team at Old Trafford. Hence, it makes sense that United are pursuing Tyrell Malacia.
