Manchester United retain an interest in Benoit Badiashile despite huge price tag
According to French outlet Nice-Matin, Manchester United have to pay a hefty price for the signature of Monaco’s Benoit Badiashile.
Harry Maguire’s performance and Raphael Varane’s inconsistent play since joining the team last summer have compelled Manchester United to hunt for a new centre-back barely a year after bringing the Frenchman onto their roster. Manchester United will be much more understaffed in this area if Phil Jones and Eric Bailly decide to leave as well.
Thus, Manchester United began the summer transfer market looking to recruit a centre-back, and Benoit Badiashile, a French defender for Monaco who is 21 years old, has surfaced as a potential candidate. Since making his Ligue 1 club debut in the 2018–19 campaign, the young player has played in 119 matches.
Despite missing much of the 2021/22 season due to a hamstring injury, Badiashile nevertheless made an impression after returning to full health in the second part of the campaign.
Manchester United are still following Badiashile’s situation in France, but they have not yet taken any concrete action. However, this is not the first time as it is believed that the Red Devils made an attempt to sign him in 2017 when he was 16 years old.
However, AS Monaco isn’t in the mood of doing favours as they are seeking a hefty sum of €50-60m for the young talented defender.
Given how unimpressive the Red Devils’ current crop of choices has been this season, central defence is an area where they need additions.
When Varane was acquired from Real Madrid last summer, it was anticipated that his extensive background would completely revamp the United defence. His troubles with injuries this season are mostly to blame for his failure to live up to the standards he set with Real and the France national team.

Maguire’s performance has declined, and he can hardly contend with greater competitors. Victor Lindelof, Phil Jones, and Eric Bailly, the Manchester team’s other choices, haven’t been given enough chances to show themselves.
Even though Badiashile is still a young player, he has already made enough appearances for Monaco to be considered an experienced player. The English team should do everything this time to get his signature after failing the first time. He may be the signing that United so desperately desired.
