According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United starlet, Zidane Iqbal has signed a new contract with the club until 2025.

The central midfielder is one of the biggest prospects coming out of Carrington and is tipped to make it big at Old Trafford. Capable of playing as an attacking midfielder as well, the Iraq wonderkid has the ability to succeed at a club of Man United’s stature.

The 19-year-old made his debut in the first team against Young Boys in the Champions League in the group stages. He also received his first international cap for Iraq and has gone on to win one more cap for the national team since.

A player who by his own admission idolised Ozil and now Frenkie de Jong, it is easy to understand what kind of a player the teenage starlet wants to become. He has confessed to wanting to model his game on the Dutch midfielder and if that is the case, Erik ten Hag will be thrilled to have him.

This season, Iqbal has played 25 times for the youth team this season scoring four goals and providing one assist across all competitions. His performances have impressed one and all and he could be provided with a chance to impress in pre-season.

Midfield is a region where Man United can do with a few reinforcements ahead of next season. Whilst it is highly likely that they will sign a new midfielder in the coming days, the vacancies mean one of the youngsters could get a chance to impress ten Hag.

After all, Erik ten Hag made a name for himself at Amsterdam for trusting youngsters and bringing out the best in them and making them a crucial part of the team. Whilst he might not be able to do it to the same extent at Old Trafford, there could be one or two youngsters who could benefit from this.

The pre-season will give us a fair idea of what kind of a system ten Hag wants to play and see who he seems to trust. He would have the chance to look at different players and Iqbal might just be one of them.
