Manchester United are set to sabotage Lyon’s move for Tyrell Malacia
According to transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United are set to ‘hijack’ Lyon’s pursuit of Tyrell Malacia.
Tyrell Malacia, a graduate of the Feyenoord junior programme, has in fact played for the Feyenoord senior team since 2017. He has nearly 150 competitive appearances under his belt for a Dutch team, solidifying his position as one of the best left-backs in the Eredivisie.
Malacia, who is well-known for his outfield speed and athleticism, has five caps for his nation. Although Feyenoord has already lined up a replacement in the form of Chelsea starlet Ian Maatsen, the 22-year-old appears to be ready for a new challenge this summer.
Tyrell Malacia is being targeted by Olympique Lyonnais, but Manchester United is attempting to sabotage the transaction. The 22-year-old was close to joining the French team after a €15 million fee was agreed upon.
However, it is now believed that United had made a last-minute approach for the Dutch international and could completely change the scenario in the transfer market.
Manchester United’s interest in Malacia is not unexpected given the team’s need for new blood at left-back. Since all of their first-team choices, Alex Telles and Luke Shaw, have underwhelmed, new coach Erik ten Hag is probably looking for a more technically adept player to fill the wide defence position.

Talks with Feyenoord to reach an agreement, Dutch sources confirm.

Since ten Hag has spent his whole managerial career coaching in the Eredivisie, he might be well acquainted with Malacia’s strengths as a left-back. His technical skill, along with his dynamism and speed out wide, may make him the perfect addition for Manchester United as they aim to bolster their roster in preparation for the upcoming campaign.
According to Simon Mullock of The Mirror, Erik Ten Hag is rumoured to be interested in Tyrell Malacia this summer because he wants top-tier competition for Luke Shaw.
