Manchester United star Donny van de Beek is among players who returned to pre-season training
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United star Donny van de Beek is among the players who have returned to pre-season training. They had begun the preparations yesterday in the Carrington complex, which would be the first time the squad would link up with Erik ten Hag.
Van de Beek would be reuniting with his former manager, ten Hag, having played under him with great success during their time together at Ajax Amsterdam. The attacking midfielder would hope to finally earn a fair chance to showcase his worth at Old Trafford under the new manager.
David de Gea, Tom Heaton, Phil Jones, Nathan Bishop, Alvaro Fernandez, Brandon Williams and Luke Shaw have also returned to training alongside van de Beek right now. Another set of players is expected to join up with the rest of the squad later today, after which ten Hag would probably try to instil his ideas into the team.
Van de Beek to turn things around?
Van de Beek has endured a difficult time in Manchester since he left Amsterdam to join Man United. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer never seemed to trust him and did not even provide the midfielder with enough opportunities to make a case for himself.
Even when van de Beek had received minutes, it was mostly in unfamiliar positions as playing as a number ten helps to get the best out of his strengths. Perhaps the Dutchman could finally see himself in that role, considering how ten Hag is the man in charge from here on out.
Then again, things would not be easy with Bruno Fernandes providing competition for the starting spot. As such, it will be interesting to see who will get into the Dutch coach’s plans, although such competition would force the players to get the best out of themselves.

We are set to begin our pre-season tour by travelling to Bangkok on July 8, which does give ten Hag some time to work his magic with the squad. Van de Beek would be hoping to impress the boss as a role is not guaranteed just because they have experience working with each other.
Van de Beek could not get any better opportunity to turn around his fate at the Theatre of Dreams. The 25-year-old must take up this chance in the best way possible, as failing to impress would probably lead to the end of his time with us.
