Fabrizio Romano reveals Erik ten Hag plans for Manchester United star Marcus Rashford
Reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed the plans Erik ten Hag has in store for Manchester United star Marcus Rashford beyond this summer. The striker is on the back of a disappointing season last time around, having struggled to replicate his form from the 2020-21 campaign.
Rashford is currently undergoing rigorous training in an attempt to impress ten Hag this summer. The centre-forward wants to turn things around next season, prompting him to take this decision. Despite having just 12 months left on his contract, he is looking ahead to being a part of the upcoming campaign.
Speaking in an interview with GiveMeSport (h/t The Sun), Romano has conveyed that ten Hag has added Rashford to his plans for the next season. The boss is willing to provide the forward with opportunities to make a case for himself, having deemed him “important” for their future.
“Speaking with some sources, Ten Hag is prepared to give him a chance to change the situation. He feels he could be an important player for Manchester United in the future.”
Can Rashford get back to his best?
Rashford’s drop in form can be traced back to the 2020-21 season, as it felt like he was overused by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at one point. The shoulder injury the England international had suffered did not help his case either, which all culminated in his inability to maintain his impressive output from that period.
However, Rashford could now be in line to be handed a fresh start under ten Hag, with the manager being hopeful about recovering the forward’s best self. Whether that will happen or not, though, would largely depend on the player himself.
That could be on the cards, considering how Rashford is currently undergoing training sessions even though he is on holiday. Perhaps the 24-year-old’s determination could play a part in helping him prove his worth to ten Hag with the pre-season drawing close with each passing day.
Furthermore, the Red Devils ace is in line to hold talks with Man United over a contract renewal. If he wants to get better terms for a new deal, showcasing himself in the best possible manner would help in that regard.

For that to happen, the English attacker must get back to his best self when making his case with the board. With Anthony Martial’s future being uncertain, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Edinson Cavani’s exit and Mason Greenwood’s indefinite suspension, he would probably enjoy more chances to get on ten Hag’s good side this summer.
