Transfer News: Manchester United target Frenkie de Jong empties locker at Barcelona
According to Spanish publication AS (h/t Mirror), Manchester United target Frenkie de Jong has emptied his locker at Barcelona ahead of the expected move to Old Trafford.
de Jong joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2019 and has since then gone on to establish himself as one of the best midfielders in Spain. Whilst the Blaugrana faithful have criticised the Dutchman’s performances at times, there is no doubt that he has performed pretty well over the course of the past few seasons.
The 25-year-old midfield superstar has played 46 games for Xavi Hernandez’s team in the latest season scoring four goals and providing five assists across all competitions.
It is no secret that Manchester United are interested in securing the services of Frenkie de Jong and with the player apparently clearing up his locker at the club, a move now seems inevitable- if that turns out to be correct information.
Getting close?
For many months now, it has not been clear as to when and if Frenkie de Jong will be coming to Manchester United but right now, clearing up his locker is the first tangible signal that a move may be on after all.
The two clubs are yet to agree on a deal for the player and are still in negotiation but one thing that will always go in a long way in securing a deal is the player’s wish to move to a particular club and it seems like Frenkie has finally made his mind on one.
The 25-year-old at Barcelona has sometimes been a victim of his own talent with the talented midfield almost always expected to do everything out on the pitch. What might be considered a good performance for some midfielders is considered an average performance for the Dutchman.
Unrealistic expectations are always detrimental to a player’s success but one person who managed to make de Jong live up to these unrealistic expectations Erik ten Hag at Ajax. Can he do it again at Man Utd? He must think so considering how heavily we have been linked with him.
