Transfer News: PSG agree deal for Vitinha from Porto as Romano rejects Manchester United interest

According to popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, PSG have agreed on a deal to sign talented Portuguese midfielder Vitinha from Porto, with the journalist confirming that Manchester United were never interested in the player to begin with.

Vitinha joined the Porto youth ranks in 2013 and has since then progressed up the ladder before breaking into the first team in 2020. The talented Portuguese was loaned out to Wolves last season but has returned to Porto and made a lasting impression this time around.

The 22-year-old midfielder has made 47 appearances for Sergio Conceicao’s side this season scoring four goals and providing five assists across all competitions. These performances have caught the eye of the elite in Europe.

Manchester United have been linked with the player for quite some time now but it has now emerged that all those links were baseless and the Red Devils were never in the race. PSG, meanwhile, have managed to agree on a deal and are close to signing Vitinha.

Why not?

Why Manchester United may have never pursued a deal for Vitinha is not clear because the Portuguese midfielder is the kind of player who could have thrived at Old Trafford.

Settling in shouldn’t have been an issue for the talented midfielder due to the presence of other Portuguese players like Bruno Fernandes, Cristiano Ronaldo and Diogo Dalot who could have made the player feel comfortable here.

Capable of playing as an attacking, central and defensive midfielder, Vitinha would have to offer Man Utd a lot of versatility. He would have suited the kind of profile who would thrive in an Erik ten Hag system.

There is no doubt that Frenkie de Jong is United’s priority when it comes to midfield. However, putting all our eggs in one basket is never a good idea, and we could find ourselves extremely short of options in the market if the Dutchman doesn’t come.

Vitinha is yet another player who has slipped our radar. We must be careful and not let all the options slip and be left with no one towards the end.

Nevertheless, it is okay to trust Erik ten Hag. If the Dutchman did not want the Portuguese midfielder, perhaps he has something better in mind. At least that’s what the fans would be hoping for!
