Transfer News: Manchester United revive interest in Ismael Bennacer
According to reports in the Algerian press (h/t Sun), Manchester United are interested in reviving their interest in talented AC Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer ahead of the summer.
Bennacer joined AC Milan from Empoli in 2019 and has since then gone on to become one of the Rossoneri’s key players. A defensive midfielder by trade who can also play further forward, the Algerian offers a lot to the team.
However, the 24-year-old lost his place in the team to Franck Kessie and Sandro Tonali and is reportedly unhappy in Milan. This season, the midfielder has played 40 games for the Serie A champions scoring two goals and providing one assist across all competitions.
Man United were interested in signing the player a couple of seasons back but a move never materialised. It now looks as if the Red Devils are set to revive their interest in the Algerian international.
Right price?
At 24, Ismael Bennacer has already seen his fair share of football and with what has been a decent career until now, he will come to Old Trafford with considerable experience.
Manchester United have a shortage of options in midfield going into next season with Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic leaving the club and this leaves them with just Fred, Scott Mctominay and Donny van de Beek manning the midfield.
That said, the Red Devils are being linked with a number of high-profile names like Frenkie de Jong and the Dutchman will definitely be a great signing if he chooses to come to Old Trafford. Signing a midfielder is more of a necessity rather than a luxury.
However, Ismael Bennacer offers us an option that not many players do. At 24, and with his contract with Milan expiring in a season, he is not expected to cost us much and could add a very different profile to our midfield.

At the right price, Bennacer seems like a no-brainer for the Red Devils. However, we must be cautious and not overpay for a player whose ceiling in football is not yet known.
