James Garner is yet to discuss Manchester United future plans with Erik ten Hag
Speaking in an interview after England U21’s defeat as quoted by Metro, Manchester United midfield starlet James Garner reveals that he is yet to talk with new manager Erik ten hag about what the future holds for him amidst interest from Nottingham Forest.
One of the most talented midfielders to come out of the Red Devils’ academy in recent years, James Garner has always been destined for the greatest things. Joining the ranks in 2017, the midfielder has progressed through the youth ranks at Old Trafford before joining Nottingham Forest on loan this season.
The talented English starlet has been exceptional out on loan at Forest as he helped the club gain promotion back to the Premier League after many years. The 29-year-old midfielder has played 49 games for the club scoring four goals and providing ten assists across all competitions.
With the English starlet set to return to Old Trafford before making a decision on his future, Garner admitted he is yet to hold these talks with Erik ten Hag.
“I’ve not spoken to Erik ten Hag yet. I’ve not spoken to anyone at the club yet. From the play-off final I’ve gone straight to being with England, so I’ve had no rest and no break yet. It’s been football, football, football. It’s time for a rest now. I’m not too sure what the future holds.”
The slightest chance?
James Garner definitely has a huge future with us at Old Trafford but whether he has a role in the first team now is a question for Erik ten Hag to answer.
One thing that is working in Garner’s favour is the number of midfielders who have left the club ahead of this summer. Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic have all left the club on free transfers.
Whilst Donny van de Beek is expected to come back from his loan spell at Everton and stake a claim for a spot in the United first team, it still leaves us with just Fred, Scott McTominay and the Dutchman as options as of now.
Even if we assume that we will definitely sign a midfielder by the time the window ends, there is a slight chance that Garner could be a part of the first-team picture next season. However, if that is not the case, the best option for both parties is to loan him out again.

With Forest now in the Premier League, we could choose to loan Garner out to them again as he will get some valuable Premier League experience whilst also helping the newly-promoted club in the process. Garner is a player born to succeed, if not now, it is bound to happen in the future.
