Frenkie de Jong is happy at Barcelona amidst Manchester United links
Speaking in an interview via @TomCollomosse as quoted by popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Dutch midfield superstar Frenkie de Jong has insisted he is happy at Barcelona calling them the ‘biggest club in the world’ amidst Manchester United links.
Frenkie de Jong joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2019 and has since then gone on to have a very polarizing time at the Nou Camp. Whilst he has definitely been exceptional at times and is almost always a consistent performer, there is a feeling that he has not performed to his potential.
This season, the Dutch midfielder has played 46 times for the Catalan club this season scoring four goals and providing five assists across all competitions. Considered one of the sellable assets by the cash-strapped Spanish giants, links to Manchester United have emerged for the player.
Speaking about interest from the English club, Frenkie de Jong admits he is flattered by the interest in him but wants to remain in Barcelona.
“You’re always flattered when teams show interest in you as a player, but I am at the biggest club in the world at the moment. I feel fine there [at Barça], so… no news”
World-class talent?
Anyone who has seen Frenkie de Jong play knows the kind of ability the Dutch midfielder possesses. In fact, a case could be made that the Barcelona midfield superstar possesses so much ability that he sometimes becomes a victim of his own talent.
De Jong is expected to do everything whilst on the pitch in every single game. He is expected to help out defensively, go forward, make assists, score goals and basically put in a 10 on 10 performance every single time he plays.
The 25-year-old has by no stretch of imagination underperformed for Barcelona but the expectations set for him are somewhat unrealistic. That said, one man who managed to make de Jong play at such a level was Erik ten Hag during their time at Ajax.
A reunion with his former boss at Old Trafford could probably help the Dutchman realise his true potential and play at the levels expected of him. At his best, De Jong could arguably become the best midfielder in the Premier League.
If Manchester United manage to sign him, the 25-year-old could be the face of their midfield for many many years to come. He has the ability to emerge as the leader of ten Hag’s new project at Old Trafford and it is no surprise the Red Devils want to sign him.

De Jong is a world-class player. His signing could only mean the world of good to Manchester United. We should go all out and secure the midfielder especially considering the lack of options there once the next season starts.
