Transfer News: Manchester United offer Christian Eriksen a contract
According to The Athletic (Subscription Required), Manchester United have proposed a contract offer from their side to Christian Eriksen as they look to sign him in the summer transfer window. He had returned to action after suffering an unfortunate cardiac arrest during Euro 2020 in the previous year.
Brentford gave Eriksen an opportunity to prove his worth, having signed him on a short-term deal back in January. The attacking midfielder impressed for club and country with flying colours since then, and he has shown no signs of being affected by the incident he had suffered last summer.
Man United have expressed their interest in the Danish international as a result, with the midfielder being set to become a free agent when his current contract with the Bees expires on June 30. Now, the former have stepped up their pursuit by offering a deal to Eriksen as they look to secure his services this summer.
Eriksen, a midfield addition?
Following the departures of Paul Pogba, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard on free transfers, we are left short-handed in the midfield at the point which calls for the need to reinforce the squad. The Manchester side cannot afford to ignore the issue as they did with defensive midfield last summer.
With Erik ten Hag at the helm, the Red Devils’ board must provide him with the right support by addressing the issues within the team. That means bringing in necessary reinforcements to engage the exits we are bound to have ahead of the next campaign.
Signing Eriksen would greatly be helpful under the current circumstances as we would not have to incur any cost to finalise a transfer. Thomas Frank’s side are looking to retain him beyond this summer, but the midfielder has already admitted that he is contemplating the other options that he has as well.
It is quite normal for players to feel uncertain about our current project even after ten Hag’s arrival. That being said, one could argue that we are a more attractive proposition due to our stature, which could lend us an edge over Frank’s team at this point.

However, they are not the only Premier League club who are interested in signing Eriksen. According to The Northern Echo, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are also in the mix as they look to get their hands on the 30-year-old.
Now we have to wait and see what the response from the former Inter Milan man will be in the coming weeks. A favourable response would see our midfield get boosted by Eriksen’s creativity, but whether that is the case or not would only be known in due time.
