Manchester United urged to sign Declan Rice even if he costs £120 million
Speaking in an interview as quoted by Mirror, Steve Bates has urged Manchester United to sign West Ham midfielder Declan Rice even if the English midfielder costs around £120 million.
Declan Rice progressed through the West Ham youth ranks before breaking into the first team in 2017. He has since then gone on to establish himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League and has been the Hammers most influential player.
The 23-year-old holding midfielder has played 50 times for David Moyes’ side this season, scoring five goals and providing four assists across all competitions. The English midfielder has forged a great partnership with Tomas Soucek at the base of the Hammers midfield.
Speaking in an interview, Steve Bates is of the opinion that the Red Devils must pay money for Declan Rice without hesitation and bring him to Old Trafford.
“Right now he’s looking the bee’s knees and has delivered on the first phase of his potential, emerging as a future leader of men whatever the colour of their shirt. Little wonder that Manchester United – among others – would all take the central midfield dynamo in a heartbeat – even if a £120 million price tag is eye-watering.”
Frenkie de Jong or Declan Rice?
It is absolutely no secret that Manchester United are interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong but Declan Rice offers them an interesting alternative.
The two players are a little different in how they like to play but both like operating in a similar place on the field. Both players like playing in a midfield two and love to drive up the field with the ball at their feet.
Whilst the Dutch midfielder is more offensive in nature, the Englishman is a little bit more balanced in his play. Regardless, both players are exceptional in their position and will offer a lot to Manchester United.
One thing that Rice has in his favour is that he has proved his pedigree in the Premier League for many seasons now and might not have a tough time adapting to a new club. The same cannot be said for the Dutchman who comes from a foreign league and might have a tougher time adapting to the Premier League.

As of now though, it does seem like the Red Devils are more keen on Frenkie de Jong and he does look like the cheaper option than Declan Rice. It remains to be seen how Man United handle this situation in the coming weeks.
