Transfer News: Middlesbrough want Manchester United goalie Tom Heaton on loan
According to the Sun, Championship side Middlesbrough want to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Tom Heaton on loan ahead of next season.
Heaton joined Manchester United from Aston Villa back in the summer and has not had a prominent role at Old Trafford in recent years. The United goalie must not have expected much game time anyways whilst joining the Red Devils.
The 36-year-old goalie made a solitary Champions League appearance for the Red Devils this season, in a match that did not hold much significance. Having not played any football, the player could look to move next season.
Middlesbrough are expected to approach the Red Devils for the veteran goalie on loan ahead of next season and could choose to sign him. This would have very little impact on United, however.
Does it impact us?
Tom Heaton has had quite the journeyman career playing across many clubs in the Premier League and could be of great value to Chris Wilder’s Middlesbrough.
Having played 379 games across all competitions in the top flight, the 36-year-old undoubtedly has a wealth of experience behind him. He could be of great utility to the club he joins next summer.
From Manchester United’s perspective, losing Tom Heaton does not affect them much at all. David de Gea is undoubtedly the number one at Old Trafford and has been extremely impressive in the past season.
Dean Henderson provides an able backup option but even if the Englishman chooses to leave in search of regular game time, it will not be any difficult for the Red Devils to procure a much younger replacement in the market.

If Heaton wants to leave, he can go. It does not change much for us and we can mitigate the issue quite easily. Having a third goalkeeper, however, can ease some stress in cup games and if a senior goalie is injured.
In that regard, the Reds can always make use of their academy and promote from within.
