Villarreal star Arnaut Danjuma hints at Premier League return amid Manchester United transfer links

Villarreal star Arnaut Danjuma has hinted at a potential return to the Premier League amid links to Manchester United for a summer transfer. He is on the back of an excellent season, with his side having played a key role in their impressive run to the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Danjuma’s only season in the PL was quite unimpressive when he was at Bournemouth in the 2019-20 campaign as he struggled with injuries in that period. They were eventually relegated to the Championship at the end of the campaign, and he failed to return to the PL since. He moved to Spain last summer and has been linked with Man United and Liverpool following his splendid displays.

Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports (h/t The Sun), the Dutch international admitted that he is keen to have a second go at playing in the English top-flight after failing to showcase his qualities in the best manner last time around. The attacker also revealed that he only moved to Vitality Stadium to experience the PL, suggesting his desire for a move in the future.

“That I will have to confirm. I think there is definitely unfinished business for me in England. Because if you look back to the reason why I joined Bournemouth initially was [for] me to play Premier League football.”

Can Danjuma solve attacking woes at Man Utd?

While the 25-year-old has played as a left-winger for a large part of his career, Unai Emery gave him a different role last season. Danjuma was often deployed as a centre-forward by Emery, and he instantly adapted to the new position, which could suggest where the Red Devils could use him should they finalise a move.

Edinson Cavani is expected to leave on a free transfer at the end of this month. That leaves us with just Cristiano Ronaldo at the helm, which is not ideal at all moving forward. We were quite over-dependent on Ronaldo for goals in the previous season which should not be the case as a balanced squad is always more healthy for the team’s success.

Marcus Rashford can play in the centre, but he has endured a difficult campaign, while Anthony Martial’s future remains uncertain as of now. Mason Greenwood is out of contention, which calls for the need for a signing this summer. Danjuma could meet our needs, and his desire to return to the PL could play into our hands.

Jurgen Klopp’s side would undoubtedly be a major concern, but Danjuma has played down the links to Anfield, which is a boost for us. Furthermore, The Reds seem to be nearing a deal for Benfica star Darwin Nunez, who is another one of our targets, so perhaps they would not actively pursue the La Liga ace.

That gives us all the more reason to chase after Danjuma, having already scouted him last season. It remains to be seen if we can convince the Yellow Submarines to sell him this summer. The fans would hope that is the case as they look for a fresh start under Erik ten Hag.
