Manchester United set to hold transfer talks with agents for Ajax star Antony
According to GOAL (h/t The Sun), Manchester United are set to hold talks with the agents of Ajax star Antony regarding a potential transfer this summer. He was one of the standout performers for his side last season under Erik ten Hag and could be in line to reunite with him at Old Trafford.
The Brazilian international’s representatives have travelled to Europe to hold discussions with Man United about a potential move. Both parties are looking to reach a personal agreement, and a positive outcome could be seen in the next few days as a result of this meeting.
The Red Devils have maintained a good relationship with the Dutch club, which is evident from ten Hag’s smooth transfer deal. That may just play a part in this case as well, as they have already slapped a price tag of £51million for Antony’s signature.
Antony to join Man Utd?
The Manchester club’s pursuit of Antony is influenced by the fact that ten Hag has asked for his services this summer. The boss has deemed the right-wing a position that must be bolstered due to the lack of a dependable option in that role.
That is quite understandable looking at the current set of options ten Hag has at his disposal. We are stretched in that position following Mason Greenwood’s indefinite suspension. Jadon Sancho was switched to the left-wing after failing to replicate the form he had shown at Borussia Dortmund on the right-hand side of the frontline.
Marcus Rashford and Anthony Elanga had to be utilised on the right-wing as such, but both of them have not performed quite well enough in that role. That paves the way for Antony to have a role in our team, although it remains to be seen if he will join us or not this summer.
One could say that the current asking price is quite expensive for someone who just had a breakout season in the Netherlands. However, Antony, being just 22 years of age, has all the time in his bag to repay us that amount if he lives up to expectations.
