Romano: Donny van de Beek is set to become crucial part of Erik ten Hag’s plans

According to popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United midfield outcast Donny van de Beek is set to become a part of Erik ten Hag’s plans at Manchester United going into next season.

After a couple of disappointing seasons at Old Trafford where the talented Dutchman was not given a chance to showcase his talents, Van de Beek left United on loan back in January to join Frank Lampard’s Everton.

The 25-year-old midfield talent has played just 21 games this season for both clubs combined, scoring two goals and providing no assists across all competitions. Once one of the biggest prospects to come out of the famed Ajax academy, van de Beek’s career has kind of stalled.

Regardless, the Dutch international is set to be given a new lease of life under the manager who managed to get the best out of him back during their time at Ajax with ten Hag set to make the midfielder a key part of his plans next season.

Fresh beginnings?

Coming back from his loan spell from Everton, van de Beek can almost be considered one of United’s new signings for the season.

There is absolutely no doubting the Dutchman’s potential as we have seen in the past with Ajax but he must be given a fair chance to prove himself next season. Under a coach who knows how to get the best out of him at Ajax, this could be a fresh beginning for the midfielder.

With Paul Pogba, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard leaving the club this summer, midfield spots would open up for the Red Devils and it is very likely that Donny van de Beek takes one up for next season.

Over the years we have seen the club give Fred and Scott McTominay numerous chances to prove themselves and despite their inconsistent performances, we have seen them being backed to the hilt by previous managers.

If Erik ten Hag manages to get the best out of Van de Beek and manages to revive his career, then the 25-year-old can be the face of the United midfield for many years to come.

He could even be akin to a new signing. What better way to fill a void in midfield than with a player already on the club’s books? Not to mention, it could even save the club money if they then don’t feel the need to sign a new player in that position.
