Manchester United could revive interest in Rayan Cherki

According to Foot1 (h/t Mirror), Rayan Cherki is yet to pen down a new long term deal with the Ligue 1 club which could give Manchester United a chance to revive their interest in the teenager.

The French starlet progressed through the youth ranks of Lyon before breaking into the first team in 2020. Whilst his development in the first team has not really gone according to plan, the talent that the forward possesses is no secret.

The 18-year-old sensation has played 22 times for the Ligue 1 giants this season scoring two goals and providing four assists across all competitions. Whilst these numbers are nothing to write home about, Cherki is still very young.

Manchester United were interested in bringing the talented winger back in 2020 to Old Trafford but a move did not materialise. However, the Red Devils may have an opportunity this summer to pull off a deal for the Frenchman.

Phenomenal talent?

Anyone who has seen Cherki play knows the talent that the player possesses and if not for a long-term injury he suffered last season, he might have broken through more by now.

Capable of playing on either wing and even as an attacking midfielder, Cherki’s versatility is a huge plus for any club that signs him and it could be one of the reasons we are pursuing a deal for the Frenchman.

At 18, the Lyon forward is still very young and is far from the finished article. However, he has all the raw materials required to become a huge success at Old Trafford. Playing under a manager like Erik ten Hag who is known to get the best out of youngsters could just be what Cherki needs.

The teenager has a contract with the Ligue 1 club till 2023 and the fact that he is refusing to pen down a new deal means that Lyon might look to sell him for a cut-price this summer to avoid losing him for free.

It remains to be seen how the future pans out for Rayan Cherki. If it does indeed lie at Old Trafford, then we could be getting our hands on a very special player indeed but of course, there is nothing to suggest that the club will go back in for him.

However, even if we do not rekindle interest in him, it’s not like we are currently devoid of talented young widemen. Jadon Sancho, Amad Diallo, and Anthony Elanga would all be eager to make a mark next season.
