Manchester United star Juan Mata ready to join another Premier League club this summer
According to The Times (Subscription Required), Manchester United star Juan Mata is open to joining another Premier League side in the summer transfer window. It has already been confirmed that he will be leaving Old Trafford ahead of the next season.
Mata is set to depart Man United on a free transfer when his current contract expires at the end of this month. He was willing to remain at Carrington, but football director John Murtough had expressed to him that they do not have any plans for him moving forward. Erik ten Hag was involved in the talks that discussed the midfielder’s future, and the boss approved of his exit.
Now, Mata is ready to remain in England and play for another PL side for whom he can be more of a regular in the future. He has attracted attention from the MLS, while a move to Spain is also touted to be probable at this point. That being said, he is undecided on his future prospects as of now.
Man Utd left to rue their mistake?
Now that the Spanish international is expected to leave the Red Devils this summer, the supporters have accepted that the club failed to get their best out of him. Mata rose to make a name for himself, donning the Chelsea shirt at Stamford Bridge as a number ten in their squad.
However, the 34-year-old was more or less often played out of position throughout the eight-year tenure he spent with us. The fans are now left to wonder how the situation would have turned out if the Manchester club had built a team around him in his suited role.
Ideally, it would be best if the former Blues superstar would decide to move elsewhere, particularly to La Liga, since a return is tipped to be on the cards. After all, that means Mata can continue to play at a top level while not joining a direct rival which would mean that we would have to face him in the future.
Mata’s situation seems quite similar to what Donny van de Beek had gone through at the Theatre of Dreams so far. While Mata is a creative number ten, van de Beek is more of a central midfielder who has responsibilities off the ball as well.

However, van de Beek was never utilised in his favourable role, although the fans are hoping that ten Hag’s arrival could turn things around. Let’s hope that we can learn from the mistakes we made with Mata and prevent such things from happening with other players moving forward.
