Tottenham Hotspur among clubs interested in signing Manchester United star Jesse Lingard
According to The Express, Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs who have shown an interest in signing Manchester United star Jesse Lingard this summer. His side have recently confirmed that he will be leaving Old Trafford ahead of the upcoming campaign.
Lingard will be leaving Man United for free when his contract expires at the end of this month. He is on the radar of several Premier League clubs, which could potentially lead to a tussle between them this summer. Tottenham are one of those interested parties as they look to get on over their direct rivals.
Spurs are not alone in this pursuit, as West Ham United and Newcastle United are vying to get their hands on the England international as well. That makes up for an interesting summer transfer window as all three clubs could use Lingard’s services to pose problems for the Red Devils in the future.
Disappointing end
The fans had hoped that the 29-year-old would end up doing well following his impressive loan spell with West Ham in the 2020-21 season. However, he was not given enough opportunities to build on that form, and his final term with us eventually turned out to be a forgettable campaign.
This situation makes it even more questionable why the Manchester club posed an obstacle when Newcastle tried to sign the PL ace last January. They were willing to pay his full wages while paying a decent sum as a loan fee. That could have at least helped us cut some costs with Lingard rather than losing him for nothing, as it happened right now.
In fact, the relationship between the club and the player has gotten worse since the beginning of this season due to various reasons. That made it even more reasonable to part ways with him in the winter transfer window, which we did not do for some unknown reasons.
Now, the North Londoners’ interest could potentially deal a further damning blow to us if Lingard would replicate the form he had shown during his loan spell at London Stadium. They are on the rise under Antonio Conte at this moment, and adding the Man United outcast would further help in their case.

However, the fans are hoping that Lingard would decide not to join our primary direct rival and accept proposals from the Hammers or the Magpies. After all, both of them can provide him with more minutes, unlike a move to N17 as competition would be very high under Conte’s team.
With the 2022 Qatar World Cup being on the horizon, Lingard would need all the minutes he can get to convince Gareth Southgate to choose him in the squad. That may play a role in his decision, but whether that is the case or not remains to be seen.
