Manchester United loanee Andreas Pereira sees Flamengo future done with as Fabrizio Romano relays agent’s message
As relayed by football journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, the agent of Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira has confirmed that the player will not continue his career with Flamengo, where he has spent the entire season on loan.
Pereira was shipped out on loan to the Serie A side until the end of the 2021/22 campaign, with the midfielder deemed surplus to requirements by then-manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The competition in the squad for places in the middle of the park forced the player to seek minutes elsewhere.
He secured a temporary move to Flamengo, where he was expected to play regular football. During this time, the Brazilian side was also said to be keen on signing the 26-year-old permanently in the summer.
However, a move to the Rio de Janeiro side now looks to be called off in the summer transfer window. Pereira has not had the desired impact with the team, failing to establish himself as a key member of the squad and contributing in midfield.
“He’s gonna return to European football”
Speaking to Brazilian journalist Vene Casagrande, and as relayed by Romano, Giuliano Bertolucci confirmed that negotiations between his client and Flamengo have broken down. The agent said that the player will be returning to European football.
With this, United’s agreement with Flamengo for the permanent transfer of Pereira has collapsed. The Carrington graduate will return to Manchester in the summer, although it remains to be seen whether he sticks around at the club next season.
When he returns from his loan spell at Flamengo, Pereira will come face to face with a new manager at Old Trafford. Erik ten Hag is set to take over the team from the summer, and it may be up to the Dutchman to decide whether the player still has a future at the club.
Pereira has spent the majority of his senior United career on loan with other clubs, unable to establish himself in the first team. Despite coming through the ranks at the academy, he has not been able to break into the senior side and impress any of his former managers.

It remains to be seen what ten Hag does with Pereira’s availability next term, given the lack of depth in midfield in the squad. Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata, and Jesse Lingard are set to depart the club in the summer when their contracts run out.
This leaves a massive hole in the middle of the park in the coming season, and perhaps Pereira could act as a potential replacement for these outgoing stars. He has seen himself starved of opportunities at the Theatre of Dreams in the past, and this could be the chance he has been waiting for.
