Transfer News: Manchester United keeping tabs on Villarreal star Arnaut Danjuma
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are keeping tabs on the situation of Villarreal star Arnaut Danjuma for a potential transfer in the future. They had assessed the possibility of signing him in the previous summer, but a move did not come to fruition in the end.
Danjuma was targeted by Man United last summer as a replacement for Jadon Sancho. They eventually bought Sancho in the end, which played a part in the former’s transfer to the Yellow Submarines. However, the English side maintained their interest in the La Liga ace and are tracking him as of now.
The Red Devils had some worries over signing Danjuma as he was playing in the Championship back then. That played a part in their decision to choose Sancho, although they could get another chance this summer. After all, the Dutch international will be available for €45million due to a release clause in his contract.
Man Utd need Danjuma?
Puzzlingly enough, it is claimed that a move to Old Trafford is unlikely as Danjuma is primarily a left-winger, which is a position where the Manchester club are well stocked right now. That is the case even though they keenly admire the qualities he has showcased in the attacking department.
It is understandable why the club would feel that they do not need any more left-wingers. Then again, one could say that perhaps Erik ten Hag could help Jadon Sancho express himself freely as the winger did at Borussia Dortmund on the right-hand side of the attack.
That seriously lowers the quality on the left-wing as our other options like Marcus Rashford, who has underperformed last season. Others like Anthony Elanga and Alejandro Garnacho are not ready to take the brunt of the force of being played as a regular in a high-pressure environment like it is at Theatre of Dreams.
Hence, it is quite surprising to see that a potential move is touted to be unlikely at this moment. What makes matters even more shocking is how Danjuma has evolved to become more of a striker under Unai Emery this term. The forward has excelled playing in that position, so perhaps we should have another look at him as a centre-forward option.

The striker department is another area that needs to be strengthened which adds to the list of reasons why there should be a change in stance regarding our pursuit of Danjuma. Edinson Cavani is set to leave on a free transfer, which leaves just Cristiano Ronaldo at the helm.
That is not ideal in a long season, especially when we have to manage Ronaldo’s minutes anyway. Danjuma could have been of great help in such a case, but we are forced to wait and see if the Mancunians board feel the same or not moving forward.
