Fabrizio Romano: Ajax offer new short term contract to Manchester United target Jurrien Timber
According to the Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Ajax have proposed a new short-term contract to Jurrien Timber, who is a transfer target for Manchester United. The latter have identified him as a potential option to strengthen their defence ahead of the next season.
Timber joins Villarreal star Pau Torres as the two shortlisted options on Man United’s radar as they look to support Erik ten Hag in the summer transfer window. They have held internal discussions with ten Hag regarding the two targets and their suitability to his plans.
However, the Amsterdam based club have now offered a short term deal if Timber stays with them past this summer. The Red Devils would not be concerned by this update as their proposal is not down to their intentions to ward off the interested parties.
Man Utd still in the mix!
Those who have watched the Eredivisie club in this campaign would know that the Dutch international has arguably been their best player this term, and signing him would be a massive statement indeed from our side. It is no wonder why the Manchester side are targeting him seriously right now, especially with the issues in our defence.
Furthermore, the 20-year-old is also more than able enough to play as a full-back on both sides of the pitch. Timber particularly excels playing as a right-back, and one might even say that the youngster is equally good in that role as he is in the central defensive position.
Reuniting the Eredivisie starlet with ten Hag would be of great help as Timber would seamlessly slot into our backline under the manager. That being said, there is a long way to go before it can be said we genuinely have a chance to sign the centre-half.
After all, talks with the Dutch side are still in the early stages, which means that we have a lot of ground to cover before our target can be acquired. At the same time, it is good to know that there are other options on the shortlist as it provides a cover in case of failure.

Then again, it would not be too much of a reach to say that Ajax are expecting Timber to leave since their contract offer is not intended to keep him at all costs. The supporters would be delighted to see that considering how desperate we are when it comes to bolstering our leaking backline.
Now we have to wait and see whether the hierarchy can reach an agreement with Ajax regarding a potential move for Timber. Whether he will join ten Hag at Old Trafford this summer or not remains to be seen.
