Barcelona will sell Manchester United target Frenkie de Jong if certain transfer conditions are met
According to the Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo (h/t The Sun), Barcelona would decide to sell Manchester United target Frenkie de Jong if they can meet certain transfer conditions. He has been linked with a move to Old Trafford despite being a regular under Xavi Hernandez.
Barca could look to sell de Jong to balance their books and cope with their dire financial situation. As such, he is not an untouchable in their squad and could be parted ways with for the right price. They want to recoup the £65.3million they paid to Ajax for his services, which has seen Man United get linked with a £65million move.
Now, the Red Devils have received a further boost as the Catalans are willing to sell de Jong if they can sign one of Robert Lewandowski or Bernardo Silva this summer. Silva seems a certain starter at Manchester City, but Lewandowski wants to leave Bayern Munich, which would be a great piece of news for Man United.
Man Utd’s pursuit to bear fruit?
The Mancunians would be happy to know that there are ways in which de Jong could leave Camp Nou in the future. That means they could possibly be handed an opportunity to reunite the Dutchman with Erik ten Hag as they look to build a new project under their incoming manager.
That being said, de Jong’s exit is far from certain, considering how these conditions are difficult to meet. Man City are in a far better place than the La Liga club right now, and the latter’s financial troubles do raise the question of whether they can target a key player like Silva in the first place.
Lewandowski is nearing the last year of his contract, and since he wants to leave Bayern Munchen, the chances of a move to Xavi’s side are far better. Then again, there arises the doubt of whether the Spanish outfit would be able to meet Bayern’s valuation of the superstar’s services.

As such, it would be best if the Manchester club would remain grounded despite this update. Furthermore, the 25-year-old’s current asking price is quite expensive as that amount could perhaps be used to rebuild the team by bolstering several areas at once.
Fortunately, it is good to see that the board are finally being reasonable with their transfer plans as they do not want to spend large sums on a single player following their Champions League exit. There are several positions in our squad that need to be strengthened, so this stance does make sense.
Whether that will end our pursuit of securing de Jong’s signature would only be known in due time. The board is looking to negotiate and reduce the price tag, but whether they would succeed or not remains to be seen.
