PSG plot Barcelona raid for Manchester United transfer target Frenkie de Jong
According to several French sources via Sport (h/t The Sun), PSG are planning to raid Barcelona to sign Frenkie de Jong, who is a transfer target for Manchester United. He has been linked with an exit from Camp Nou over the past month or so, and now it seems that other clubs are becoming alerted to his situation.
Despite being a key player for Xavi Hernandez, Barca are willing to sell de Jong if their valuation of £65million is met by any of the interested parties. They are suffering from a dire financial situation which has prompted them to put the midfielder up for sale as he is one of their best-priced assets. Pedri and Gavi being in midfield also give them enough leeway to facilitate a transfer.
Man United have already expressed their interest in signing the Dutchman, with Erik ten Hag keen on reuniting with his former player. However, they will now have to deal with Paris Saint-Germain, who have entered the transfer race to take advantage of this market opportunity that has presented itself.
Blow for Man Utd!
The French side’s entry certainly would cause concerns for us, considering how they are in a far better state than us at this moment. They have even managed to keep hold of Kylian Mbappe and are looking to bolster their midfield, looking at how Georginio Wijnaldum, Idrissa Gueye, and Ander Herrera have struggled to make an impact so far.
Moreover, we are in a delicate situation at this moment, considering the need to carry out a rebuild is at the highest point it ever has been at Old Trafford. Ten Hag wants to sign de Jong for that very reason to strengthen their depleted midfield this summer.
That being said, de Jong’s current stance does not favour us at all, as he wants to stay at the Blaugrana club and play in the Champions League. Even if he changes his decision, the lack of CL football gives the Ligue 1 side an advantage over us as of now.
The supporters would hope that the prospect of playing with ten Hag would be enough to convince the 25-year-old to join the Red Devils. After all, it is the former Ajax boss who has used de Jong in the best possible way so far given the midfielder’s rise and rise during his time in Holland.
Whether that will be enough to convince de Jong to move to Carrington or not would need to be seen. The Manchester club will certainly hope that is the case as they would undoubtedly be eager for midfield additions considering how Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba will leave this summer.

Matic and Pogba’s departure would leave them thinned in terms of the pivot options, as a pairing of Fred and Scott McTominay would probably be one of the last things that the fans would hope to see moving forward.
PSG have seemingly built a strong roster of central midfielders and de Jong may wonder where he fits in the plans at Parc des Princes. In comparison, getting playing time at Old Trafford would arguably be much easier, given the potential exodus of a couple of starts coupled with the lack of quality on our bench in that area.
