Transfer News: Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka will be allowed to leave this summer

According to Sky Sports, Manchester United full-back, Aaron Wan-Bissaka will be allowed to leave the club this summer as he does not seem to fit incoming manager Erik ten Hag’s plans.

The defender joined the club in 2019 from Crystal Palace under the management of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Since then, the player has not been able to find regular stars under interim manager Ralf Rangnick and it appears as though it will be difficult for him to play under the new head coach next season.

The 24-year-old spent most of his time on the bench as Rangnick preferred Diogo Dalot over the former as his fullback. His fortunes will apparently not turn around under the new manager. Wan-Bissaka’s attacking output, at times, has been questioned during his stay at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are open to selling him permanently but are also not averse to sending him out on loan, given that it comes with an obligation to buy. This shows that the club is desperate to permanently get the defender off their books.

Hunt for a new full-back

The Mancunian club has shown interest in Ajax star Jurrien Timber, a centre-back who has enjoyed a rather decent title-winning season with the club. The Red Devils would be wise to invest well in their defence, given that it was one of their major downfalls this season.

Man Utd won’t play in the Champions League next season and it is partly because of their defence not managing to keep clean sheets or defend leads in crucial games.

While Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, and Raphaël Varane have been infuriatingly inconsistent this season, ten Hag may look to bolster his defence with fresh legs coupled with a fair bit of experience.

United’s investment in Wan-Bissaka now looks like a waste in hindsight. Spending £50million on a player that isn’t a regular starter in the team is certainly a blunder, but it seems like they are now trying to fix it by working on the right-hand side of the defence.

A permanent fix rather than a loan move would be wiser considering it will remove any question marks that may be hovering over Wan-Bissaka’s head with regards to his time at Old Trafford. While Dalot is always an option, Brandon Williams is also set to return from his loan spell at Norwich City.

But then again, it depends on ten Hag whether he likes the options he currently has, or if he wants the board to get him a player that can fit whatever system he may have in mind for our team. It is certainly going to be a big summer transfer window for us.
