Transfer News: Manchester United target Robert Lewandowski is tempted to join FC Barcelona
While speaking in a YouTube interview, as relayed by barcauniversal.com, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that Manchester United target Robert Lewandowski is highly interested in moving to Camp Nou in the coming transfer window.
Robert Lewandowski remains one of the most lethal strikers globally, having scored 50 goals and assisting seven more in 46 matches across all competitions. Last year, the Polish striker came second in the Ballon d’Or ranking and remained a contender for the coveted individual title.
Despite experiencing massive success with Bayern Munich, he is looking for a new challenge. After the last game of the Bundesliga season, the 33-year-old communicated his intentions to move to a new club in the coming summer transfer window and suggested that he wouldn’t be signing any contract extension with the Bavarian giants.
Top-tier teams wouldn’t be rejecting a chance to sign such a lethal striker if everything falls in place. Some of the teams that have shown interest in the Polish star lately are Barcelona, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.
However, according to Fabrizio Romano, Lewandowski has already set his eyes on a move to Barcelona and has begun gathering information about the club and the beautiful city. The Italian added that the 33-old-year striker would reject other approaches as he has been closing on a three-year agreement with the Catalan giants.
Big Blow for Manchester United?
Robert Lewandowski has been one of the best players in the world for the last few seasons. His lethal goal-scoring abilities have stunned opponents and helped Bayern win several titles. That’s why losing out on such a significant transfer looks like a big blow for our team. However, there are other factors which we should consider when judging the outcome of the transfer.
Manchester United’s best player has been 37-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo so far this season, and Edinson Cavani remains another crucial striker despite being 35-years-old. The duo probably wouldn’t be able to perform at the top level for many years; hence reinforcement is needed.
However, being a 33-year-old himself, Lewandowski doesn’t look to be the best player for our team’s long-term future. Our board might have to pay a significant amount to secure his transfer. On top of that, his wages could cost us a fortune.

If we keep aside the short term impact, we might be better off with a young striker who would come at a much lower price than the Polish striker. Our board shouldn’t spend too much money on big-money transfers for one position as there are a lot of positions that require immediate reinforcement.
