Cristiano Ronaldo hints at Manchester United stay in Erik ten Hag welcome message

Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted that he has plans to stay at Manchester United in his welcome message to Erik ten Hag. The latter will take over the managerial role from Ralf Rangnick at the end of this season as they look to usher in a new era at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo’s up has been in the air for a while, but it seems that he might stay with Man United past this summer. It was previously claimed that he is assessing his future options but is willing to stick with his current club if ten Hag wants his services. Now, the superstar’s message to the incoming manager could be interpreted as a hint towards his intentions.

Speaking in an open interview (h/t The Sun), Ronaldo has expressed his delight at ten Hag’s imminent arrival, suggesting that he has made up his mind about his future. The talisman also believes that they will win titles under the new boss, further indicating that he has decided to stay.

“We are happy and excited, not only as players but the supporters as well. I wish him the best and let’s believe that, next year, we are going to win trophies. What I know about him is he did a fantastic job for Ajax, that he’s an experienced coach.”

Will Ronaldo stay with Man Utd?

The Portuguese international did not stop there as he further called for patience from the board and the supporters when it comes to their rebuild. He conveyed that the incoming coach would take some time to impose his ideas on the squad.

“But we need to give him time. Things need to change in the way he wants. I hope we have success, of course, because, if you have success, all of Manchester is going to have success as well. I wish him the best.”

Despite Champions League football and Europa League football eluding us, it is good to see that the 37-year-old could stay with the Manchester club moving forward. That is a great thing indeed, even though Conference League is not a guarantee either, even now.

Since the former Real Madrid man is looking forward to winning trophies with ten Hag in the next campaign, one could even say that he has made a firm decision regarding his future. The fans would be happy to see that the centre-forward is also managing the current situation to provide a healthy environment for the new manager.

After all, a look into our squad would paint the picture that there is a lot of work that needs to be done if there are plans to challenge heavyweights like Liverpool or Manchester City. Even others like Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are ahead of us right now so it would not be an easy task either.

ten Hag’s tenure at Ajax has shown that with time and the right backing, he can build a strong footballing project. As such, we must pay heed to Ronaldo’s words and be patient moving forward. What’s more, the attacker could even play a prominent role despite nearing the end of his playing career.

Even though the Red Devils’ ace is past his best days, he still possesses the tools to make an impact as he has done this season. Whether he can continue that under Ten Hag or not remains to be seen.
