Several Premier League sides keeping checks on Manchester United target and RB Leipzig star Konrad Laimer this summer
According to 90min (h/t Express), Manchester United will face competition from several English sides for the signature of RB Leipzig star Konrad Laimer in the upcoming summer transfer window, as they look to bolster their midfield areas.
Laimer has been one of the most consistent performers for the Bundesliga side this season, pulling the strings in midfield and keeping things ticking for the team. His displays in the middle of the park have seen the club reach the semi-finals of the Europa League this term.
His performances have caught the attention of United and interim manager Ralf Rangnick, who is familiar with the player from his time as head coach at Leipzig and director of football at RB Salzburg in the past.
The German is also set to become the next manager of the Austria national team, where Laimer is a regular feature in the squad. He has recommended the 24-year-old to the Red Devils, who have been looking at him as a possible midfield target in the summer.
English sides keeping checks on Laimer
However, United are not the only Premier League side to register an interest in the player. Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Aston Villa are said to be keeping checks on Laimer ahead of the new season. Given his impact in the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have also reared their heads toward the star.
The Austria national is out of contract in the summer of 2023, so there may be a chance that Leipzig will look to sell the midfielder at the end of the current campaign to cash in on the player. Else, they could risk losing him for free next year.
Rangnick may be departing United in the summer when his tenure as head coach expires, but he is still connected to the club in his capacity as a consultant while being in charge of the Austrian team. He clearly seems to have a high opinion of Laimer, and it could be something that the club could look into.
The English side’s midfield has been underwhelming for the majority of the current season, lacking any shape or stability to stop the opposition players from taking control of the game. The current crop of options have neither been able to support their attackers nor shield their defenders on a consistent basis over the course of this season.

Fred and Scott McTominay have been first-choice in the middle for the Old Trafford outfit, but the duo have failed to impress against stronger teams. Further, the squad will be losing their only holding midfielder in the summer as Nemanja Matic has already announced his departure. Paul Pogba is also expected to be on his way out.
The midfield needs an upgrade ahead of the new campaign, and Laimer’s performances in Germany make him an attractive option to snap up. However, several clubs seem to be in line to secure his services, so perhaps the Red Devils need to take Rangnick’s advice into serious consideration and make an active approach for the Austrian.
