Borussia Dortmund are keen to keep Manchester United target Jude Bellingham
Borussia Dortmund are adamant that they will keep hold of Manchester United target Jude Bellingham following the latest update on Erling Haaland. Manchester City are set to sign Haaland permanently in the summer transfer window, which has raised questions over the midfielder’s future.
Bellingham has earned quite a name for himself as a result of his impressive displays over the last few seasons. He has quickly cemented a starting spot for club and country, which has resulted in interest from Man United and Liverpool. However, despite links with an exit, it seems that he will stay with Dortmund for longer.
Speaking in an interview with CNN (h/t The Sun), BVB’s CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke is optimistic that they can keep hold of the Englishman amidst interest from European giants. He added that their confidence is based on the player’s love for the club and their ability to manage young starlets’ development.
“But we can win a fight over an 18-year-old player, like Jude Bellingham because this player loves to play at Borussia Dortmund because we have always 80,000 spectators, it’s a very good atmosphere and the club knows how to manage young players.”
Should Man Utd give up?
Watzke even continued by conveying that they have a good set-up to ensure that they find the right talents that suit their system. He added that they give importance to these youngsters’ progression, which is the same in the case of Bellingham. The chief believes since they can provide such a healthy environment, they can beat off the competition.
“That’s our way and, OK, we have a good department who are scouting young players every day, but it’s also very important if you have the player here, you must develop him and I think that works… most of the time, it works.”
It appears that it would be best if the Red Devils halt their progress for now and plan an offensive sometime in the future. However, we are desperate for midfield reinforcements this summer, which means that we must search for other targets in the transfer market.
We are set to lose several midfield options at once at the end of this season. Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata, Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard are all out of contracts in the summer transfer window, and they are expected to leave for free after this term.

Bellingham would have been a great addition considering fresh blood would always instil the drive and desire to challenge for silverware. He is still in the early stages of his playing career but has made such an impact that he is among the best central midfielders in world football right now.
But since the German club are keen to fight off interest in the 18-year-old’s signature, it would be best to take a step back and target him in the future. Until then, we must prepare adequate alternatives to meet our immediate needs. Whether Bellingham would be a future option or not would only be known in due time.
