Manchester United dealt transfer blow as Declan Rice makes future admission
Manchester United have received a transfer blow following the latest admission from Declan Rice regarding his future prospects. He has been linked with a big-money move elsewhere, but he has suggested what his plans are for the next season.
Rice has a contract with West Ham United, which will expire only in 2024. Furthermore, they even have the option to extend his deal by another year, giving them control over his future. He has been linked with an exit to Man United alongside Chelsea and Manchester City after he had rejected three renewal offers which would have seen him earn £200k-a-week in wages.
Speaking in an interview after winning the Hammer of the Year (h/t The Sun), the Englishman has confirmed that he will stay with them for the next season after he was asked whether he will be with West Ham. That message is perhaps his biggest admission just yet regarding his future.
“Yeah of course. There has been so much speculation but you can see every time I put on a shirt what this club means to me. Every time I step onto that pitch, every time I leave the pitch, I will always walk off having given 100 per cent and I will always give everything for this club and the manager and my teammates.”
Man Utd must look elsewhere
The 23-year-old would have been a massive addition to our squad, considering how helpful he would have been in our rebuild. After all, he has excelled playing as a holding midfielder for England national team under Gareth Southgate while playing at a similar level at the club level in an advanced position.
That would have made the Hammers superstar a great reinforcement, especially with Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba expected to leave Old Trafford on free transfers this summer. After all, with Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard also being in line to depart for free, it will be difficult to make several additions at once.
Rice would have made a large impact as he could have filled in several positions, which reduces our need to make multiple transfers in an instant. However, following his latest revelation, we are forced to search for other targets to meet our needs for the rebuild under Erik ten Hag.

Perhaps, the Premier League ace’s mind could change in the future as he is keen to feature in the highest level of competitions like the Champions League. That may not be a feasible target as David Moyes’ side would need to cover quite some ground to take on the big guns. In such a case, Rice leaving is a possibility, but that may not happen this summer.
Hence, the Mancunians could try their cards to sign him in the future, but it would be best if we turn our attention elsewhere for now.
