Erik ten Hag denies reaching agreement with Ajax to take certain players to Manchester United
Erik ten Hag has claimed that there is no agreement with Ajax for taking certain players to Manchester United alongside him this summer. It has been stated that he could bring some of his current choices to Old Trafford when he moves there after this season.
Ten Hag has already signed a three-year contract with Man United with an option to extend it by another year. He will take charge at the end of the current campaign, with the English side preparing for a massive summer overhaul to raise their squad’s quality.
As such, they have been linked with moves for Antony and Jurrien Timber in the summer transfer window. There have been talks of an agreement between the Eredivisie club and Ten Hag to take some players with him to England. However, the boss denied such speculation in his pre-match presser yesterday (h/t The Mirror).
“No, there are no agreements about that. I now have very good players, but it’s not an issue at all.”
Should Man Utd worry?
Despite Ten Hag’s revelation, there is no reason to worry that transfers may not be in the cards for our targets like Timber and Antony this summer. An agreement may not be reached right now, but that could change in the coming months, especially when we get a full picture of our plans after this term.
Moreover, the Dutch coach could also be trying to respect his current side, especially when he is set to join us at the end of this season. In such a case, it may not be best to openly admit that plans are being laid down to raid the Amsterdam based club. This, however, is just a theory that has no real backing to it.
And even if what ten Hag is saying is true, there doesn’t seem to be anything about him not being allowed to go back to his old club in search of players in the future. Moreover, Ajax aren’t the only club in the world where we can sign players from.
Timber is one player that can be a valuable addition indeed as we could use some reinforcements in our centre-back positions. Phil Jones and Eric Bailly should be moved out this summer which vacates some spots for the Dutchman to come in and play for us.
As for Antony, we could face some other issues as well with Barcelona and Juventus also posing competition for his services. We do not have any natural options on the right-wing right now, which makes it necessary to bring him in this summer. However, Amad Diallo can feature in that role when he returns from his loan spell at Rangers.
The Ivorian has struggled for gametime in Scotland while summer signing, Jadon Sancho, has looked good on the left flank under Rangnick.
Hence, it is good to know that we are pushing ahead to facilitate potential transfers for them, even though Ten Hag was very coy about the matter.

Then again, it is best to keep things tight-lipped until the business is taken care of. Hopefully, the club brings in a few new faces to spearhead the revolution under the Dutchman.
