Fabrizio Romano relays Ralf Rangnick plans about working with incoming Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag
As quoted by football journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick opened up about his plans with incoming manager Erik ten Hag and what the club’s recruitment policy would look like from next term.
Rangnick was appointed by the club to lead the side late last year, given the position on an interim basis until the end of the season as they looked to find a more permanent solution to their managerial problems. He will take over in an advisory role with the Manchester side from next season, working as a consultant.
In the end, ten Hag was announced as the English side’s fifth permanent manager since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson. The Ajax Amsterdam head coach will take over from Rangnick in the summer when the German’s tenure as interim boss expires.
The Dutchman has been impressive at Ajax, leading them to multiple trophies over the past few years. He even guided the team to a Champions League semi-final in 2019, winning plaudits from across the football world.
“We will decide on right players”
With a change of guard imminent at Old Trafford, Romano quoted Rangnick, who told Simon Stone of the BBC that he was looking forward to helping ten Hag as much as he wants and is willing to cooperate with whoever is at the club to change everything for the better.
The former RB Leipzig man also spoke about how the Red Devils were planning to go about their recruitment policy in the future, saying that they would only sign a player if ten Hag approved the transfer. Further, the interim manager said that the board, scouting department, and possibly he himself would decide on the right players for the club.
It is no secret that United are looking to rebuild their squad in order to usher in a new era of success at the Theatre of Dreams, after years of mediocrity and disappointment when it came to winning silverware and achieving glory.
The last league title came in 2013, and the English giants are currently on a five-year trophy drought. The UEFA Europa League in 2017 was the last piece of silverware that the club got their hands on, which came under Jose Mourinho.
ten Hag will be coming in amidst high expectations, given his impressive CV that boasts of trophies and his ability to build competitive squads. With Rangnick supporting him in an advisory role, his first-hand experience in handling the United players may help the Ajax manager settle in quickly.
