Ralf Rangnick hits back at Manchester United legend Paul Scholes’ comments on dressing room chat with Jesse Lingard
Speaking after his side’s 3-1 loss to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium yesterday (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick hit back at club legend Paul Scholes, who revealed that the dressing room at United was a disaster after having a chat with first-team Jesse Lingard.
The Red Devils have endured a terrible season this time around, unable to put together a winning run in the league and offer competition to other rivals as the club continues to slip down the Premier League table with each gameweek.
Scholes, who won 11 PL titles with Man United, said that the dressing room at the club was an absolute mess after he had had a quick chat with Lingard, with the current first-team star revealing that it was a disaster.
“It’s an absolute mess. It’s a disaster of a dressing room. I had a quick chat with Jesse the other day and I’m sure he won’t mind me saying he said the dressing room is just a disaster.”
These comments come after the result against Arsenal left the Manchester side in sixth place, six points away from the Gunners who climbed up to fourth in the league table. To make things worse, the north London club also have a game in hand that they can use to their advantage.
“I don’t see there is an issue”
The former midfielder’s revelation comes at a time when it has already been announced that a new manager will be coming in the summer to take charge of the first team, replacing Rangnick as the head coach. The German was appointed on an interim basis only until the end of the season.
The former RB Leipzig boss hit back at Scholes, saying that it was normal for the group to behave like this when things weren’t going their way and it would be a problem if it was any different from the current situation. Rangnick insisted that he does not view this as an issue in the locker room.
“It would rather be a problem if this was different. This is for me normal but I think the whole group get on reasonable with each other, I’m not daring to say they get on well with each other. I don’t see there is an issue in regard to the locker room.”
Things seem to be at an all-time low at Old Trafford this term, with the team’s performances on the pitch seeing Rangnick’s predecessor Ole Gunnar Solskjaer getting the sack after failing to pull out results.
The German has not had a successful time since taking over either, seeing the club crash out of the FA Cup and UEFA Champions League in 2022. This now means that the side will go trophyless in yet another campaign, which makes it five years since we lost won any silverware.

The morale in the team is sure to be low, but Scholes’ comments will not help the uncertainty surrounding the club at the moment. The club legend even went on to take names during his revelation about the team’s mood, which is rather unprofessional. He has been in the game long enough to know better.
It was encouraging to see Rangnick respond to these comments in a mature way, playing down speculation like this when the mood around the club looks to be fragile and down in the dumps in the first place. It will be interesting to see how the Red Devils respond to this situation in the coming weeks.
