Transfer News: Manchester United in pole position to sign Norwich City right-back Max Aarons

According to The Sun, Manchester United are among the favourites to secure the services of Norwich City right-back Max Aarons ahead of the summer transfer window. He could be in line to leave Carrow Road at the end of this season with his side currently struggling in the relegation zone.

Man United are searching the market for a right-back, and they have decided to focus on Aarons. Tyrick Mitchell of Crystal Palace was also considered, but the scouts rate the Norwich star more highly, prompting them to take the current stance. That has seen them lead the race for the Canaries ace, with Arsenal also being in the same boat.

Aarons has also attracted interest from Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, with Barcelona and AS Roma having targeted him previously as well. The Englishman is currently valued at around £20million, which is pretty reasonable for a man of his stature.

Man Utd to sign Aarons?

Our current options in the right-back position do not instil confidence in us for the next season. Diogo Dalot has certainly impressed under Ralf Rangnick, although he could still improve his defensive side of the game. While he has made some ground, there is still room for growth moving forward.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka always felt like the wrong profile for us as his attacking attributes are quite limited– something which has frustrated fans at times. We need to look for adequate replacements, and Aarons can be a solid shout indeed.

Aarons’ current asking price is arguably reasonable, taking into consideration the demand for his services. Not to mention, he is also contracted until 2024, making it an even better deal for us should we complete a move. Then again, the relatively low price could be down to Dean Smith’s side struggling in the drop zone.

With Norwich looking closer to relegating to the Championship, it remains to be seen what happens with their ambitious players that desire to compete in the first division. The Canaries are bottom of the PL table with 21 points from 31 games. Aarons, given the interest he has garnered, can surely cut it at a top club- even if it is as an understudy.

Having racked up 159 appearances for the senior side at such a young age, Aarons is certainly a dependable option. Whether we would actively vie to finalise a move for the fullback or not would need to be seen in due time.

Due to the competition from the Gunners, we would need to be wary of them in particular at all times since they are in the lead alongside us. Only time will tell how this pursuit will turn out in the coming months ahead of this summer.
