Several Manchester United fans react on Twitter as the 1-1 draw to Leicester dents hopes of a top-four finish
Taking to Twitter, Manchester United fans have reacted to their team’s 1-1 draw against Leicester City in the Premier League, with the club playing its first domestic game in over two weeks since the end of the international break.
In a game that did not feature Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, his country and club teammate Bruno Fernandes took up the striker role, playing as a false nine in an attempt to act as the team’s focal point. He had the best chance of the first half as well, seeing his strike saved by the legs of Leicester skipper Kasper Schmeichel.
The miss would prove costly, as the second half saw Leicester strike after the hour mark through Kelechi Iheanacho, who buried a header past David de Gea courtesy of a brilliant James Maddison cross from the left side on a counterattack.
The Foxes did not keep the lead for too long, as Man United struck back within minutes after Fred thumped in from close range after the opposition keeper palmed away a Fernandes strike straight into the Brazilian’s path.
Top four in jeopardy
It was an evenly contested first half, with both teams making headway into each other’s penalty boxes and taking shots, although it ultimately came to nothing. The second period saw much more intent from both teams, resulting in the goals being scored, but neither side could find the winner.
The result leaves Man United in the sixth position in the league table, level on points with Tottenham Hotspur in fifth place. However, Spurs have played a game less, meaning a win tomorrow against Newcastle United could send them three points clear of the Red Devils.
Man United were heading into his fixture after winning 3-2 against Spurs in their previous Premier League fixture, courtesy of a Ronaldo hat-trick that downed the north London club. Meanwhile, Leicester moved up to ninth place in the league table, after Aston Villa lost to Wolves earlier in the day.
The Manchester side’s top-four hopes are in jeopardy, having dropped two points at home. Arsenal, with two games in hand at the moment, could pull away from them if the Gunners manage to beat Crystal Palace tomorrow night.
