Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans could be sold in the summer, with Manchester United interested in the player
According to The Telegraph (Subscription Required), Leicester City could part with star midfielder Youri Tielemans at the end of the season, with a couple of Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, interested in the player.
The Red Devils are looking to bring in a new permanent manager in the summer to usher in a new era at the club, aiming to break their five-year trophy drought and rebuild the side to make sure they compete for all available silverware next season.
Given a possible rebuild planned ahead of the new campaign, midfield could be targeted as an area to improve upon. It has been a weak link in our side for the past couple of years, and it needs to be addressed if we are to run deep in competitions in order to win trophies.
However, any potential move for Tielemans at the end of the season will also see competition from arch-nemesis Liverpool, who are also interested in snapping up the Belgium international to bolster their own midfield.
Leicester City clear-out
The reason for Tielemans’ availability is because the Foxes have been hit hard financially due to Covid. As a result, they need to somehow find a way to bring in new players to strengthen the team, while selling a few of their own stars to raise funds.
Amongst those who could be sold are Tielemans, Kelechi Iheanacho, Caglar Soyuncu, and Ayoze Perez, with the Belgian midfielder available for around £25m, given he has only one year left on his contract.
The 24-year-old would be a massive upgrade on our current first-choice midfield pairing in Fred and Scott McTominay, with the United stars unable to stamp their authority against big opposition and proving to be unreliable at times.
Paul Pogbaappears likely to depart for free in the summer, while 33-year-old Nemanja Matic seems to have let his age creep up on him and affect his performances. Our other midfield option in Donny van de Beek is out on loan at Everton until the end of the season, although it is now known if he will stay in Manchester beyond the summer due to his limited game time at the club.

Evidently, we are in need of midfield reinforcements, and in Tielemans, we have a young and dynamic midfielder who goes on to become our lynchpin for years to come. That, combined with enough Premier League experience under his best, will ensure he settles in easily at Old Trafford.
A regular Belgium international as well, he brings maturity and calmness to our midfield – something that has arguably been missing in the middle of the pitch for us. Perhaps tonight’s game against United could prove to be his audition for a summer move, hoping to impress.
