Transfer News: Bayern Munich enter race to sign Manchester United target Christopher Nkunku
According to the German news outlet SPORT1 (h/t The Sun), Bayern Munich have entered the race to sign RB Leipzig attacker Christopher Nkunku, who is a transfer target for Manchester United. He has been excellent throughout this season, and his performances have made him one of the best forwards in world football based on form.
Nkunku is currently tied down with Leipzig until 2024, but he is eager to assess his options in the summer transfer window. Moreover, it is claimed that it will take a huge financial effort to renew his contract, which paves the way for a potential exit. He is currently valued at £59million, which seems a fair price for a man of his talents.
Bayern Munchen have noticed the Frenchman’s displays and have registered their interest in him. However, their pursuit will depend upon Serge Gnabry’s future, who will enter the final year of his deal after this season. New talks are planned regarding a renewal, but they could target Nkunku if a solution cannot be found.
Potential blow?
Fortunately for us, Bayern’s interest is not direct, which could mean that they may never even target him if Gnabry’s contract is renewed. Then again, the opposite could happen, so we have to keep a close eye on that situation and see how that turns out.
As for Nkunku, the Frenchman can be considered a necessity for us ahead of the next campaign. After all, there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding our attacker, so we may need to bolster our ranks. Edinson Cavani and Jesse Lingard are in line to become free agents this summer and could leave the club as a result.
Cristiano Ronaldo, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood are in uncertain waters as well, which puts into perspective the need for attacking reinforcements. Nkunku is a great choice, considering how he has 26 goals and 15 assists this term from 39 matches across all competitions.

However, the Bavarians are not the only club who would be a thorn in our pursuit, with Chelsea also being in the transfer race at this moment. That being said, perhaps we could gain an edge with the help of Ralf Rangnick. After all, he is the one who prised away Nkunku from Paris Saint-Germain back in 2019.
It remains to be seen how the Bundesliga giants’ stance on Nkunku will turn out to be in the coming months. Even if they actively target the 24-year-old, we must retaliate and facilitate a move for him at all costs if there are plans to challenge for silverware that has eluded us for some time now.
