Manchester United deny claims of talks with Ajax over compensation fee for Erik ten Hag
According to Sky Sports, Manchester United are adamant that they have not held any talks with Ajax Amsterdam on the subject of a compensation fee involved in signing Erik ten Hag. The English club are looking to bring in a new man in charge to take over the reins from the next season onwards.
Ten Hag is one of the favourites for the coaching role at Old Trafford. Man United have held “very positive” formal talks with him regarding a move to Carrington. The Eredivisie side are very open regarding the matter, as they have permitted Ralf Rangnick’s side to carry out their talks.
Sources close to the Dutchman and the Amsterdam based club claimed that the Red Devils have already held discussions on the subject of the financial compensation and his announcement, with the Dutch side still involved in a close title race at this moment. However, the Mancunians have denied those talks and conveyed that they have no preferential option right now.
Ten Hag to Man Utd?
The board’s current stance is understandable considering how they are still working on their shortlist right now. Not to mention, they would do the same assessment with all the managerial candidates which explains why they have shut down the claims inferring Ten Hag being in the lead.
Then again, there is arguably no better option than ten Hag right now. Paris Saint-Germain would play hardball with us for Mauricio Pochettino, who is another top target for Man United. PSG would only part ways with him on their terms, which seems not to be in our best interests.
Luis Enrique is another choice, but it is really difficult to see him join us under the current circumstances. He is currently managing Spain’s national football team, and leaving them right before the 2022 Qatar World Cup looks like a distant possibility.
Ajax, on the other hand, have not caused any troubles so far, which in and of itself makes it an easy process for us. Ten Hag has done the same, so there is no reason to see why we are not going down that route, especially when our other targets are not easily accessible.

Ten Hag is one of the highly-rated coaches in world football right now, and he is still on the rise as a manager. Putting an end to this managerial uncertainty as early as possible is a necessity for us since we need to focus on our transfer dealings ahead of the next term.
Our summer targets would probably want to know who will lead them moving forward if they sign for us, so finding a solution at the earliest would be in our best interests. Let’s wait and see how our managerial search will pan out in the coming months ahead of the next campaign.
