Fabrizio Romano provides contract update on Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes
According to football journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes will head back from the Portugal national team to his club in order to sign a new contract with the English side.
One of the most popular players at United at the moment, the former Sporting CP skipper was brought to the club in the winter transfer window of 2020. He made an immediate impact in England, helping his new side to a top-four finish in a season where they were struggling in the Premier League.
Currently on national duty with Portugal, the player scored two goals last night against North Macedonia to help his country qualify for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar later this year. He nearly played all ninety minutes of the game, being replaced by Matheus Luiz towards the end of the match.
His first goal last night was assisted by club teammate and national team captain Cristiano Ronaldo, who threaded the ball through for Fernandes to finish emphatically past the North Macedonian keeper to open the scoring.
New 5 year contract
Romano revealed that the 27-year-old would now head back to the Red Devils for some Premier League action, and also to sign his new contract at the club. Despite only having signed in the second half of 2020, he has been offered a new deal so soon, which is a testament to how highly the side values him.
The journalist said that both Fernandes and United had agreed on a new contract that lasted until June 2027, and the deal would be signed by the player and then announced to the fans within the coming days.
Few players have had the kind of impact that the Portuguese magnifico has had at Old Trafford, with the midfielder key to a lot of our team’s goals and assists ever since he made his debut. He has driven our team forward and created countless chances for forwards to score in the time that he has been in England.
The price that we paid Sporting to secure Fernandes’ services seems like a bargain in hindsight, with the player proving that he is worth every penny spent on him, and much more. His new deal is thoroughly deserved, and we can hope that he continues to perform for us in the future.

2022 may not have been the United star’s best year in terms of productivity for the team, but there is no doubt that we are a better-looking team with the midfield in our starting lineup. He has played nearly every game for the club up until now, with the player hardly ever injured since moving to Old Trafford from Liga NOS.
The decision to reward Fernandes with a new deal before the appointment of our new permanent manager shows just how much he is rated at the club. Whoever the next manager is, they will be glad to know that they have a player like him to utilise and reliably depend on in attack.
