Potential incoming new manager Erik ten Hag keen to bring Ajax Amsterdam winger Antony with him to Manchester United
According to The Telegraph (Subscription Required), Manchester United could see the arrival of both manager Erik ten Hag as well as winger Antony from Ajax Amsterdam ahead of the new campaign in a set of wholesale changes at the club.
ten Hag and Antony are currently on course to lead Ajax to a hat-trick of league titles in the Eredivisie, with the Dutch team sitting pretty on top of the league table. While it will only be Antony’s second league triumph, it is set to become the head coach’s third during his tenure at Amsterdam.
The Dutchman is a leading candidate to become the next permanent manager at Old Trafford, with his impressive CV making him a strong option for the vacant role in Manchester next term. He is expected to replace interim manager Ralf Rangnick at the club if he joins this in the near future.
The Ajax head coach is getting closer to a move to Manchester, as he was formally interviewed by the English giants last Monday. Evidently, the club is looking to intensify their search for a permanent manager to succeed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after the club legend was sacked late last year after a string of poor results.
Double swoop at Ajax
Apart from changes off the pitch, United are also looking to make changes on the pitch – especially in attack. Goals have been missing from the current crop of forwards at the club, which has seen slip up in the league table as we currently sit sixth and are in danger of missing out on a top-four finish by the summer.
If ten Hag moves to the Theatre of Dreams this summer, then United may be in for a double transfer swoop at Ajax as it is thought the Dutchman would be interested in signing Antony from his previous employers. The 22-year-old is earning a growing band of admirers due to his performances in Holland and in Europe.
Antony has been one of the star performers for Ajax under ten Hag, and the 52-year-old’s presence in the dugout in Manchester could help him replicate that form in the Premier League. The winger has shown that he has what it takes to succeed at an elite level, with the Brazilian impressing in the UEFA Champions League against big teams.
Despite having the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, and Marcus Rashford up front, we have struggled to score goals this term. Our wingers Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga have made up for the deficit, but we need more firepower in attack if we are to compete seriously from next season onwards.

Antony’s trickery and skills on the flanks are sure to boost our attacking ranks if he ends up joining us next campaign, and under the tutelage of ten Hag, we can expect him to continue his brilliant performances on the pitch.
After all, he rose to become a Brazil international under ten Hag, and he could be destined for a lot more under the Ajax manager at United next term – provided both of them make the move in the summer. It might mean added competition for forgotten January 2021 signing Amad Diallo, but then again, we would be foolish to say no to a player like Antony.
