Manchester United handed transfer boost as Bayern Munich ‘faced with complication’ to sign RB Leipzig ace Christopher Nkunku
According to German outlet BILD (h/t Express), Bayern Munich have deemed a move for RB Leipzig ace Christopher Nkunku too expensive, providing a transfer boost for Manchester United, who are keen on the player, with interim manager Ralf Rangnick particularly fond of the versatile attacker.
The Frenchman has been a revelation in the Bundesliga as well as in Europe for Leipzig, becoming their go-to man for goals this season. The player has gotten better and better with every campaign for the Bundesliga side, attracting attention from other major clubs in the continent.
United are keen on adding attacking reinforcements to their side in the summer, and the presence of former Leipzig boss Rangnick in their dugout was thought to be a big help in convincing the 24-year-old to move to Old Trafford.
The German manager is a huge fan of Nkunku, after seeing the forward’s ability up close and personal as he signed the player from Paris Saint-Germain for free in 2019. Rangnick has encouraged his current side to secure the services of the attacker in the summer as the Red Devils look to bolster their squad.
Bayern priced out for Nkunku
The Old Trafford side’s path to signing Nkunku was never free, with Bayern also keen to add Nkunku to their forward line. However, the Premier League side are set to receive a transfer boost in their pursuit of the France international as Bayern currently deem the player too expensive to afford.
It is said that the defending Bundesliga champions will only seek to sign the forward if they manage to sell players first and raise funds, before heavily investing in Nkunku. At the moment, Leipzig have valued him at a whopping £63m.
The Frenchman is a highly versatile player, capable of playing anywhere across the frontline, in the midfield, and down the flanks. He usually plays down just behind the frontline for Leipzig in recent times and has 26 goals in all competitions this season.
An attacking reinforcement is a necessity at the Theatre of Dreams next season, given the state of things up front for the English giants this term. Goals have come far and few from the boots of the current forwards at the club, which has seen us slip down the Premier League table.
Cristiano Ronaldo was re-signed last summer to boost our goal tally, but the Portuguese superstar has proven to be inconsistent in front of goal since the dawn of the new year. His striker partner Edinson Cavani has been missing from the team due to injury issues, which has seen all the responsibility of scoring on Ronaldo’s shoulders.

Marcus Rashford has looked out of form and touch since his disappointing Euros 2020 final with England, with the forward seemingly in disarray after not being able to shake off his poor form for his club this campaign. With Anthony Martial on loan at Sevilla and Mason Greenwood’s suspension limiting our options up front, a goalscorer has been desperately missed this season.
Nkunku’s wonderful form in Germany has caught the eye of United, and with Rangnick’s seal of approval, he could prove to be a great addition to our side in the summer. However, with the immense price tag placed on his head, and his lack of Premier League experience, perhaps the Red Devils will think twice before actively pursuing him at the end of the campaign.
