Fabrizio Romano gives update on Manchester United ace Cristiano Ronaldo and his future
Speaking to Portuguese journalist Miguel Machado, as relayed by Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Manchester United ace Cristiano Ronaldo has provided an update on his future, saying the decision to continue playing football is something he will decide when he wants.
In an interview with Machado, the United forward provided some clarity on his future for club and country. At 37, while other football stars would have called it a day, the Portugal skipper is still going strong at the highest level.
Having won nearly everything for club and country, as well as picking up innumerable personal accolades, Ronaldo will go down in history as one of the most successful goalscorers of the beautiful game.
Having made his name at Old Trafford, the player would go on to play for Real Madrid and Juventus over the past decade, before sealing a sensational return to Manchester last summer and delighting supporters who idolise him.
“I don’t play more”
Romano quoted Ronaldo, who said that he was still enjoying football and that he still feels useful for both club and country. The former Sporting CP ace said that he will decide when he hangs up his boots, insisting that it was purely his decision to make.
The Portugal international said that he would stop playing football if he didn’t feel like it anymore, and conversely, he would continue playing more games if he wants to. Curiously enough, Ronaldo ruled himself out of the Manchester derby earlier this month when he was apparently injured.
“If I want playing more games, I will, if I don’t feel like it, I don’t play more”.
Currently on national duty with the Portugal national team, the forward was last seen playing the full ninety minutes of his side’s 3-1 win over Turkey as they look to qualify for the World Cup later this year.
At club level, Ronaldo hit the ground running on his second debut for the Manchester side, scoring twice against Newcastle United to send the Old Trafford crowd singing and chanting his name throughout as the Red Devils stormed to a 4-2 win.

Since then, however, the goals have dried up and Ronaldo has been inconsistent – something that is unnatural for the forward, who is known for his incredible scoring record. He showed a glimpse of what he still possesses in his locker against Tottenham Hotspur, scoring a hat-trick against them earlier in the month, and we can hope that he picks up on it and continues scoring until the end of the season.
United fans will be delighted with the Portuguese star hinting about continuing his playing career at the club level, hoping that he stays at the Theatre of Dreams next campaign as well. At the moment, they will be expecting Ronaldo to help them finish the season strongly and secure UCL football next term when he returns from the international break.
