Transfer News: SS Lazio set gigantic €80million price-tag on Manchester United target Sergej Milinković-Savić
According to Il Messaggero via FCInter 1908, SS Lazio have slapped an enormous €80 million fee for Sergej Milinković-Savić who is a target for Manchester United. PSG are the other European giants who are also vying for his services.
The likes of Juventus and Inter Milan are also in the fray for the Serbian midfielder. It is not surprising that so many teams are vying for his services considering the exceptional performances that he has put up for the Italian club in the last few seasons.
The 27-year-old midfielder’s current contract with the Italian club will expire in 2024 and it is believed that he won’t be signing a renewal. In such circumstances, the Serie A club could look to cash in on the player despite Maurizio Sarri considering him as an integral part of his plans at the Stadio Olimpico.
Milinković-Savić has played 39 matches across all competitions, bagging nine goals and providing 10 assists for the Biancocelesti this campaign. His exploits on the ball and ability to pick out pockets of spaces can make him an ideal fit for most teams.
Sergej Milinković-Savić at Old Trafford?
Whilst the Red Devils have suffered from great bouts of inconsistency over the last few years and haven’t managed to get their hands on a single major trophy in the last five years. This has left the fanbase frustrated on several occasions.
The Mancunian club have struggled to assert themselves in the middle of the pitch also struggling to open up opposition defences. At 27, the Serbian midfielder could possibly be headed into his prime years and could go on to marshall the midfield for at least a few more years should things fall into place.
The Manchester-based club could be on the lookout for an enigmatic midfielder next season should Paul Pogba decide to leave us at the end of the campaign when his current contract expires. Sergej Milinković-Savić could be an optimal option should the French international decide to call it quits with Manchester United.
Whilst the Serbian international looks like a tempting proposition, the club should tread cautiously so as not to put an unnecessary amount of stress on their finances. The Old Trafford outfit could also do well to make suitable additions in other parts of the pitch if their recent performances are to be considered.
The interest from other parties coupled with the huge price tag attached to the 27-year-old could thus prove to be a big stumbling block if Man Utd are genuinely interested in securing his services. We have shelled out enormous sums on players in the past which has come back to haunt us.
